In honor of Black History Month, Gopher Athletics is celebrating those who made us great. Throughout February, GopherSports.com will share short interviews with African-American alumni from various Gopher programs. In these interviews, former student-athletes reflect on their time at the U of M, provide advice to current Gophers and share what Black History Month means to them personally.

What is it you miss most about the University?
I miss the comradery of being on a team. I absolutely loved my teammates and still communicate with some of them today.

If you could give the current student-athletes any piece of advice, what would it be?
Take advantage of this opportunity and maximize it to your fullest potential. It truly is a once in a lifetime experience that very few people get to experience, even when hard sometimes.

Please share your favorite university or athletic event you've attended since you graduated and what made it so special to you?
Unfortunately, I was out of state for many years, so really haven't had the chance to attend any events.

What are you grateful for?
The lessons that I learned while a student-athlete. Some of those principles still hold true today and most certainly have prepared me for the many amazing experiences that I have had since graduating.

What does Black History Month mean to you?
Time to reflect on the sacrifices of those before us. Reminder to not rest on laurels and continue to strive to be the best you that you can be. To never forget. Remember the social responsibility we have to improve our communities.

What occupies your time now?
Adulting.
