GOLDEN GOPHERS SKATE TO 4-2 VICTORY OVER MICHIGAN TECH

SoThe University of Minnesota men's hockey team scored four unanswered goals and defeated Michigan Tech 4-2 at Mariucci Arena Friday night. The win snapped the Golden Gophers' 10-game winless streak. Sophomore Matt Leimbek finished the game with a career-high three points with a goal and two assists.

Michigan Tech was held without a shot for the first ten minutes of the game, but after Minnesota's Bill Kohn was sent to the penalty box for tripping, the Huskies' Matt Ulwelling scored at 10:49 of the period. Michigan Tech would make it 2-0 just 29 seconds later on a goal by Paul Cabana. After giving up two goals on the Huskies' first two shots of the game, Minnesota would answer back with its own power-play goal when Leimbek scored from Reggie Berg and Rico Pagel at 14:17. The Golden Gophers would tie the game at 2 when Aaron Miskovich's slap shot was blocked by Huskie goalie David Weninger, but the long rebound was put home by Wyatt Smith at 17:15.

Senior Mike Anderson gave Minnesota the lead for good in the second period with a slap shot from point blank range off the faceoff at 13:04. Rico Pagel netted the final goal of the night off of a cross-ice pass from Leimbek at 16:45. The two teams were scoreless in the third period and the Golden Gophers outshot the Huskies 38-21 for the game.
