Minnesota took charge of the match early, netting three first-half goals among its nine shots taken in the opening period. Senior Megan Johnson collected the game winner just 7:57 into the match off an assist by Nicole Lee.
Amy Koehler gave the Gophers a 2-0 lead when she blasted a Laurie Seidl cross into the Purple Ace net from 12 yards out at the 25:52 mark. Seidl gathered her own goal at 34:44, heading a cross from Alison Rackley for the Gophers' third goal. Lee stole the ball from an Evansville defender and broke away for an unassisted goal at 54:54 to close out the scoring.
The four goals scored matches the Gophers' highest output of the season, accomplished earlier in a 4-0 victory over Purdue.
Dana Larson and Julie Eibensteiner shared the shut out at goalkeeper for the Gophers. Larson was credited with three saves, while Eibensteiner played the entire second half without seeing an Evansville shot on goal. Minnesota outshut the Purple Aces by a 16-9 margin in the match. Evansville (7-9-2) was unable to capitalize on its 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Minnesota closes its regular-season schedule next weekend with non-conference matches against Kentucky (Oct. 29) and Alabama (Oct. 31). Both matches will be played in Lexington, Ky.
