GOPHER SOCCER DEFEATS ALABAMA TO END REGULAR SEASON

Four different Gophers scored goals in the match, three of them handing Minnesota a 3-1 halftime lead. Samantha Meyers scored the Gophers' first goal unassisted at the 5:57 mark. After Alabama's Tiffany Carle tied the score netting a 22-yard free kick, Minnesota's Amy Koehler put the Gophers up for good at the 20:54 mark off assists by Nicole Lee and Laurie Seidl.
Megan Johnson's unassisted goal at 27:42 turned out to be the game winner and gives Johnson seven goals on the season.
Alabama (6-14-0) rallied to within 3-2 at the 76:41 mark with a penalty kick goal by LaFonda Eubanks, who spent the first half playing goalkeeper for the Crimson Tide.
The Gophers added an insurance goal at 83:58, when Jaime O'Gara scored off a pass from Lee.
The Gophers dominated statistically, outshooting Alabama by a 26-5 margin. Dana Larson and Julie Eibensteiner shared the goalkeeping duties for the Gophers, each playing one half.
Minnesota's next action is Friday, Nov. 5, when the Gophers play Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Conference Tournament in Bloomington, Ind.
