MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY WINS NCAA DISTRICT V CHAMPIONSHIP

ChampionshipSenior Eric Pierce placed third and four Golden Gophers earned All-District team honors as the Golden Gophers won the 1999 NCAA District V Championship held at the University of Illinois with 56 points. With the win, Minnesota receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships at Indiana University on Monday, Nov. 22. The Golden Gophers will be competing in their third consecutive NCAA Championship. The University of Missouri took runner-up honors with 76 points and Oklahoma State rounded out the top three with 104 points.

Pierce was the top finisher for the Golden Gophers. He placed third in the 10K course with a time of 30:54. Sophomore Andrew McKessock placed ninth for Minnesota with a time of 31:07, while sophomore Joey Corr rounded out the top three for the Golden Gophers with a time of 31:08 for 10th place. Senior Jeremy Polson and junior Jason Owen took 15th and 27th place, respectively with times of 31:18 and 31:37.

Chuck Sloan of Oklahoma State and Jason Lehmkuhle tied for top honors with an identical time of 30:25.

With their top 15 finish, Pierce, McKessock, Corr and Polson were named to the All-District team.

The Golden Gophers will compete in the NCAA Championships on Monday, Nov. 22 at Indiana University.
