GOPHER SOCCER ELIMINATED FROM NCAA'S BY NEBRASKA

No. 4 Nebraska eliminated Minnesota from the NCAA Women's Cup with 5-0 shutout in the tournament's second round, in a match played in Lincoln, Neb. on Sunday. The Golden Gophers, who have lost in the second round for three consecutive years, ended their season with a 13-9-0 record. Nebraska, 21-1-1, advances to the third round where the Cornhuskers with host Texas A&M.

Minnesota held its own early in the match, firing five of the first seven shots in the match's first 13 minutes. Gopher midfielder Jaime O'Gara blasted Minnesota's best scoring opportunity within the box on goal, but Husker goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc, a member of the Canadian National Team, smothered the shot.

After the 13-minute mark, the momentum switched to the Huskers, who outshot the Gophers by a 15-0 margin i8n the remainder of the half.

Nebraska's Becky Preston broke into the scoring column at the 16:20 mark off an assist by Lindsay Eddleman. Meghan Anderson tallied her 20th goal of the season o on an assist by Sharolta Nonen at 34:13, to put Nebraska up 2-0 at the half.

Three Husker goals followed in the second half. Shannon Tanaka, Nonen and Anderson provided Nebraska with an insurmountable 5-0 lead. LeBlanc secured the shout with five keeper saves.

Nebraska finished the match with a 28-12 advantage in shots, along with a 12-2 margin in corner kicks. O'Gara and Nicole Lee lead the Gophers with three shots a piece.

Playing her final match at goalkeeper, Dana Larson collected eight saves for the Gophers.
