FOUR-GOAL THIRD NOT ENOUGH FOR GOPHERS TO OVERCOME BULLDOGS

The Bulldogs got goals early in the first and second period to take a 2-0 lead. For Gopher Jenny Schmidgall scored just 29 seconds into the game and Maria Rooth scored 51 seconds into the second period. Schmidgall scored again late in the second period and the visitors entered the final period leading 3-0.
Laura Slominski scored short handed at 4:53 of the third period to start the Minnesota rally and Nadine Muzerall followed less than two minutes later to cut the lead to 3-2.
Brittny Ralph, another former Gopher, scored 24 seconds after Muzerall's goal but Slominski added her second of the game at 8:56 to cut the lead to one and Ambria Thomas scored short handed with 9:46 left in the third period to tie the game.
The Bulldogs got the game winner with 8:50 left in the game as Ralph scored on a blistering slapshot from the right faceoff circle.
UMD had a 37-22 advantage in shots on goal, including 30-13 in the final two periods. Erica Killewald had 32 saves for Minnesota while Amanda Tapp had 18 saves for the Bulldogs.
The two teams meet again tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.
