GOLDEN GOPHERS FALL TO HAWKEYES 76-73 IN IOWA CITY
2/11/1999 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Seniors Quincy Lewis and Kevin Clark combined for 53 of the team's 73 points, but it was not enough as the Hawkeyes survived to defeat the Golden Gophers 76-73.
Lewis poured in a game-high 30 points on 11-of-21 from the field including 5-of-10 from three point range while Clark hit for 23 points on 7-of-11 from the field, 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and added eight assists.
Down by as many as 11 points in the second half, the Gophers crawled back into the game and had a five point lead with five minutes remaining. But two crucial Hawkeye three pointers down the stretch gave the Hawkeyes the momentum to pull out the victory.
The Golden Gophers return home to play the No. 5 Michigan State Spartans on Saturday night. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN2 and starts at 8:30 CT.
