WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS FALLS AT WEST VIRGINIA

The No. 8 Gophers women's gymnastics team scored its highest floor exercise total of the season, but couldn't overcome a season-low on the balance beam to finish third in a meet Saturday against No. 12 West Virginia and North Carolina State in Morgantown, W.V.

West Virginia was first with a score of 195.175, North Carolina State was second at 193.200 and the Gophers third at 192.425.

Senior Cathy Keyser placed fifth with a score of 9.775 on balance beam, the highest score for the Gophers on the event. The Gophers had to count an 8.65 score on the beam and recorded a season-low team score of 46.825.

The Gophers recorded a 49.075 on the floor exercise, led by junior Judy Cavazos and freshman Catie Christiensen, who tied for second with a score of 9.875 for the Gophers' highest individual finish in the meet. Freshman MaryAnne Kelley had a 9.825 and freshman Megan Beuckens a career-high 9.8.

Cavazos placed second in the all around with a score of 38.075.
