GOPHERS REST BEFORE BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

ADVANCE TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR BIG TEN'S - All-session tickets for the 1999 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 18-20, at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center Dorothy L. Sheppard Pool are available by calling the Gopher Ticket Office at 612- 624-8080 or 1-800-U-GOPHER. The price of an all-session ticket is $30.
GOPHERS WIN 12 EVENTS AT UNSCORED MINNESOTA CHALLENGE - The No. 14 University of Minnesota women's swimming and diving team won 12 events over the two-day (Feb. 5-6) Minnesota Challenge meet.
Sophomore Lital Kashriel (Ma`ale Adumim, Israel/Ott Ramot) led the Gopher effort with four victories. Kashriel won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 59.04 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke in 58.48 seconds. She was also a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.05) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.04).
Sophomore Katy Christoferson (Burnsville, Minn./ Burnsville) captured three titles, winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2:05.51 and the 400-yard IM in 4:28.01). Christoferson was also on the winning 200 freestyle relay.

Falls), 50 free, 23.73 Minnesota's winning relays: 200 free, (1:36.05), Christoferson, Simakova, Kashriel, Jenny Hennen (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) 400 free, (3:36.15), Simakova, Kim Hamren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield), Jocelyn Pogue (Jamestown, N.D./ Jamestown), Amy Miller (Blaine, Minn./Lake Park) 200 medley (1:49.04), Kashriel, Kelsey Hegener (Cologne, Minn./Lutheran), Krissy Berglund (Somerville, N.J./Somerville), Meghan Sonstegard (Sioux Falls, S.D./Apple Valley) MINNESOTA RANKED 14TH - Minnesota is ranked No. 14 in the Speedo American College Swimming Coaches Association Top 25, dated Feb. 4. Georgia is No. 1, while Michigan (No. 9), Northwestern (No. 12) and Wisconsin (No. 16) are other Big Ten teams included in the national poll. Illinois and Indiana received votes. The next release date for the national poll is Feb. 18.
HEAD COACH JEAN FREEMAN - Minnesota head coach Jean Freeman enters her 26th season with the Golden Gophers. Freeman has guided the Golden Gopher program to seven top-20 national finishes. She is assisted by Terry Nieszner and diving coach KZ Li.
