GOPHER REGGIE BERG HONORED AS WCHA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MinnesotaSenior forward Reggie Berg has been named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in last weekend's series against the University of Minnesota- Duluth at the DECC in Duluth, Minn. The Golden Gophers swept the Bulldogs to clinch home-ice advantage in a first-round WCHA playoff series.

Berg, a native of Anoka, Minn., enjoyed the first four- goal game of his career in Saturday night's 10-7 win against UMD, and finished the weekend with four goals and two assists. Berg is now just one point shy of becoming the 23rd member of the Golden Gopher 150- Point Club. He has 70 goals and 79 assists for 149 total points in 153 career games. Berg, who leads the team in scoring with 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 total points this season, now has 10 multiple-point games this season and 36 in his career as a Golden Gopher. Minnesota is 31-3-2 in Berg's career when he scores more than one point in a game.

Berg joins Matt Leimbek (Feb. 1), Adam Hauser (Nov. 2), and Aaron Miskovich (Oct. 19) as Golden Gophers who have been named WCHA Players of the Week throughout the 1998-99 season.

The Golden Gophers close the regular season this weekend when they play host to Wisconsin in a pair of games at Mariucci Arena. Both games will faceoff at 7:05 p.m. Friday night's game will be tape-delayed on Midwest Sports Channel beginning at 8:30 p.m., with Saturday night's game telecast live at 7:05 p.m.
