AMUNDSON NAMED CO-BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MetroSenior Aron Amundson was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week Monday after his performance last week against Bowling Green and Oregon State at the Metrodome. The Golden Gophers swept a pair of three-game series from the Falcons and the Beavers and ran their season-long winning streak to 10 games. Minnesota is now 16-6 overall on the season. Amundson shared the honor with Illinois' Todd McClure.

Minnesota's designated hitter batted .600 with 10 RBIs, four doubles, a triple and a home run in 15 at-bats. In the Golden Gophers 16-9 victory over Oregon State on Saturday, Amundson tied a career high with four hits. He had two doubles, a triple and a career-high five RBIs in the win.

Amundson is in his first and only season for the Golden Gophers after transferring from the University of Oklahoma. The Mandan, N.D., native now leads the team with a .472 batting average and an .887 slugging percentage. He is tied for the team lead with four home runs.

Minnesota is ranked 30th in the latest Collegiate Baseball rankings released Monday and will open the Big Ten season at Purdue (10-10) this weekend.
