WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS IOWA, 4-3

Minnesota and Iowa split in singles matches but the Gophers won the doubles point to defeat the Hawkeyes, 4-3, Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa. Minnesota improves to 11-4 on the season and 4-1 in the Big Ten.

Minnesota won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Seniors Tarah Elkins and Sitinee Rangsithienchai won at No. 2, defeating Natalya Dawaf and Emily Bampton, 8-4. Junior Nora Sauska and freshman Jen Howard teamed to defeat Erica Johnson and Shera Wiegler, 8-6, putting the Gophers up 1-0 heading to the singles matches.

Sauska won her match at No. 1 singles, defeating Toni Neykova, 7-6, 7-5. Sauska has won seven straight singles matches and is 12-3 in dual matches this season. Junior Kim Simonsen defeated Sheri Wiegler at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Tammy Wang made her first appearance in singles during the spring season, defeating Megan Kearney, 6-4, 7-6, at No. 6.

The Gophers play Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., Sunday at 10 a.m.
