DEMARCHI SIGNS TENDER WITH GOPHERS

1999-200The University of Minnesota men's hockey program has announced the signing of Matt DeMarchi of Bemidji, Minn., to a national letter of intent to play for the Golden Gophers beginning with the 1999-2000 season.

DeMarchi is a 6'2", 185-pound defenseman who played with the North Iowa Huskies of the United States Hockey League during the 1998-99 and 1997-98 seasons. He scored four goals and added 14 assists in 53 games last season after a goal and two assists in 34 games the previous campaign. DeMarchi tallied 131 penalty minutes last season and 66 penalty minutes during the 1997-98 season.

"Matt is a good young player with good size and tremendous potential," said Golden Gopher Head Coach Don Lucia. "Matt will be fun to work with because he his very coachable and is a hard working player. He has gained valuable experience playing in the USHL each of the last two seasons and has developed nicely as a player in his time there. He is also a solid student -- Matt will be a tremendous addition to the Golden Gopher hockey program."
