University of Minnesota volleyball player Nicole Branagh has been selected as one of 18 athletes on the USA's World University Games roster. The World University Games will be held July 2-10 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

The team is training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., May 15-June 12. The squad will travel to Canada to compete against the Canadian National Team, June 13-17, then train in Chicago, June 18-27, before heading to Spain.

Branagh, a junior outside hitter, earned all-region and All-Big Ten honors a year ago after landing 579 kills. Her 5.51 kills average per game ranked second in the conference and fifth nationally. After just two seasons with the Golden Gophers, Branagh owns 1,057 career kills.

Branagh is one of five players (Jenna Wrobel, Michigan State; Dana Stearns, Ohio State, Jen Flynn, Ohio State; and Christine Landry, Michigan State) on the roster from Big Ten teams. The team is coached by Ohio State head coach Jim Stone.

Charnett Fair, a transfer from Golden West College who will join the Gophers this fall, is also training for international competition this summer. Fair, a junior middle blocker, is a member of the USA's Pan-American Team. The team will train at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., to prepare for the Second Annual Colorado Cup, July 26-August 1.
