WOMEN'S ATHLETICS' TEXAS TUXEDO A SELL OUT

5/3/1999 12:00:00 AM | Athletics

WeThe University of Minnesota Women's Athletics Department's Texas Tuxedo fundraising event has officially sold out, according to Texas Tuxedo Project Manager Jonda Hammons. Texas Tuxedo will be held Wednesday at Mall of America.

"We are overwhelmed at the support we've received for Texas Tuxedo," said Hammons. "Wednesday night should be a great time for all."

The Texas Tuxedo event is expected to raise $150,000 for the Berg Scholarship Fund and other Women's Athletics projects and operations. Hosting the event will be Vikings owner Red McCombs, Minnesota First Lady Terry Ventura and University of Minnesota President Mark Yudof. The anticipated $150,000 from Texas Tuxedo combined with a previous $100,000 donation by McCombs and his wife, Charline, marks a quarter of a million- dollar investment in Women's Athletics at the University of Minnesota.

"We hope this is the first of many sellouts for Minnesota Women's Athletics events," added Minnesota Women's Athletics Director Chris Voelz. "We certainly appreciate all our hosts and steering committee has done to make this event a success."

Mall of America's Camp Snoopy will be closed to provide the setting as guests step out of Minnesota for the evening and hit the trail for their Texas Tuxedo experience. A reception and silent auction kick off the festivities and will be followed by an authentic Texan dinner created by local restauranteur Wayne Kostroski (Tejas, Bar Abilene and Goodfellows).

Following the dinner, it's time to celebrate with some Texas two-steppin' entertainment, provided by country western star Jerry Jeff Walker. The hosts will show off some fancy two-steppin' during the performance. A live auction, with each of the hosts contributing one-of-a kind items, will also take center stage during the evening. Highlighting the auction items is a Vikings preseason game package in which the four lucky guests will serve as honorary captains representing Women's Athletics.

The Women's Athletics Department welcomes your involvement in upcoming fundraising endeavors. Contact Scott Shragg at 612-6246336 to discuss future events supporting the Golden Gopher Women's Athletics Department.
