MarooThe University of Minnesota basketball team dropped its third consecutive game in four days when they dropped an 85-73 decision to the Siemanns men's basketball club today in Ghent, Belgium. The Maroon and Gold played a solid first half holding the game to a 40-40 tie, but ran out of gas in the second half with a injury and foul depleted lineup. Dusty Rychart missed the game vs. Siemanns with a deep thigh bruise and Terrance Simmons played with a sprained ankle. The Golden Gophers were in deep foul trouble in the second half as three players fouled out from the front court. Joel Przybilla, John Blair Bickerstaff and Nick Sinville all fouled out leaving the team with only one front court player at the end of the game and that was walk-on center John Aune. Trailing by as much as 18 points in the second half, the Maroon and Gold showed great heart again by closing the gap to three points with two minutes remaining, but it was not enough as Siemanns outscored them 15-6 in the final two minutes.
"We were very shorthanded tonight and it really showed in the second half when we ran out of players up front due to foul trouble," said Head Coach Dan Monson. "We did hang together as a team and showed great resolve getting back into the game and that is a bright spot. We're looking forward to getting back on the court and trying to finish this tour on a winning note tomorrow."
Terrance Simmons led the team in scoring with 19 points, while Kevin Nathaniel and Przybilla added 13 points each. Mitch Ohnstad tallied seven points and Nick Sinville added six points. Siemanns was led by Belgian native Bernhard Gizzi who tallied 27 points, 20 in the second half.
