Anderson led North St. Paul High School in scoring as a sophomore, earning the team's Most Dedicated Player Award. She has spent the last two seasons with the Minnesota Thoroughbreds, helping the team to a pair of national tournament appearances, including a second-place finish in 1999 and a third-place finish in 1998.
As an assistant captain in 1999, Anderson scored 10 goals and 25 points as the team posted a 43-9-3 record. She led the Thoroughbreds with five goals in the national tournament and tallied seven points in six games, including a hat trick in the team's 4-0 semifinal victory.
Sundberg joins Roseville teammate Ronda Curtin, who signed during the early signing period in November, as a member of Minnesota's 1999 recruiting class. A four-year letterwinner in hockey, she was a member of Roseville's unbeaten state championship teams in both 1996 and 1999. With the Raiders, she also played with current Gophers Winny Brodt and Kelly Olson.
An 11-time athletic letterwinner, Sundberg served for three years as a hockey captain and one year as a soccer captain with Curtin. She was a four-time all-conference honoree in hockey and also earned all-conference honors in soccer as a senior. In addition, she earned three letters in softball, playing for former Gopher standout and 1986 Big Ten Player of the Year Barb (Drake) Lindgren.
"We're happy to have Gwen and Aly join us for the coming season," Halldorson said. "They are solid forwards who will give us more depth up front and will contribute right away. Both come from strong academic backgrounds and are good examples of the quality student-athlete we want to be part of our program."
Minnesota opens its 1999-2000 season Friday, Oct. 15, when its hosts St. Cloud State at 7:05 p.m.
