GOPHER VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS ST. MARY'S IN OPENER

Nicole Branagh led Minnesota with 17 kills, while Yvonne Wichert added 11 kills. Lindsey Berg had 30 assists, leading the Gophers to a .455 hitting percentage. Berg and Susan Shudlick had 10 digs apiece for Minnesota. The Gophers outblocked the Gaels 11-1, and held St. Mary's to a .031 hitting percentage. The Gophers needed only 63 minutes to complete the sweep of the Gaels.

"I thought that we played well, and our offense was explosive," said Minnesota head coach Mike Hebert. "We did a great job of limiting our hitting errors. Berg was sensational in running the offense tonight, and Branagh was obviously pumped to be playing in front of her hometown fans."

The Gophers dominated the first game, scoring 12 of the last 14 points to win the game 15-4. Minnesota did not have a hitting error in the game en route to a .591 hitting percentage. Branagh had seven kills and Linda Shudlick had three blocks to lead the Gophers in the opening game.

Minnesota had a similar run in the second game, scoring 14 of 15 points in a mid-game run. The Gophers hit .465 in the game, led by Branagh and Yvonne Wichert with six kills apiece.

Minnesota continues its four-match road trip with matches at the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Gophers will play fourth-ranked Hawaii Friday at midnight (CDT).
