MINNESOTA VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS PITTSBURGH IN WAHINE CLASSIC

Nicole Branagh led Minnesota with 12 kills, and Lisa Aschenbrenner tied her career high with nine kills. Linda Shudlick led the Gophers with eight blocks, and Susan Shudlick led Minnesota with 10 digs. Lindsay Berg had 33 assists and directed the Gopher offense to a .305 hitting percentage.

The Gophers raced out to a 10-1 lead in the first game, scoring the last six points of the run on Susan Shudlick's serve. Pittsburgh scored six of the next seven points to cut the Gopher advantage to 11-7, but Minnesota scored four of the final five points to win the opening game. Linda Shudlick led Minnesota in the first game with five kills and three blocks.

Minnesota broke open a close second game by scoring the final five points to win 15-10. Branagh had three kills in the rally and five in the game. The Gophers had four aces in the second game, two served by Linda Shudlick.

The Gophers scored the first 14 points of the third game en route to the sweep. Minnesota hit .632 in the third game and committed just one hitting error.

Minnesota is now 1-1 in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic after losing to No. 4 Hawaii late Friday in three games, 15-13, 15-4, 15-6. Minnesota will conlude play in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic against No. 10 UCLA on Sunday at 8 p.m. (CDT).
