MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO PENN STATE

In the first half, Minnesota and Penn State kept it close, as the Golden Gophers led throughout much of the half. Sophomore Dusty Rychart scored the first basket for the Golden Gophers, which was quickly answered by Penn State's Jarrett Stephens and the score was tied at two. After a tie score at 4-4, Minnesota quickly took a 10-4 lead. There were five lead changes before the Golden Gophers went into the lockerroom with a one point 39-38 lead.
In the second half, after a three pointer from freshman Kevin Burleson, Penn State scored the next six points to take a 44-42 lead. After that it was all Penn State, whose largest lead in the game was 10. The Nittany Lions made 20-of 27 freethrows and beat the Golden Gophers, 80-72, despite outshooting Penn State, 54 percent to 45 percent, and outrebounding the Nittany Lions, 40-27.
Przybilla, with 19 points and 11 rebounds recorded his sixth double-double of his career and Bickerstaff added eight rebounds to go with his career-high 1 points. Rychart added nine points and junior Terrance Simmons scored eight points for the Golden Gopher effort.
Minnesota returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 29, when they play host to the Northwestern Wildcats at 11:30 at Williams Arena.
