SJunior Mitch Ohnstad scored a season-high 18 points and two other Golden Gophers scored in double figures as Minnesota defeated Northwestern, 69-60, Saturday afternoon at Williams Arena.

The first half started slowly as sophomore Joel Przybilla scored Minnesota's first two points. Ohnstad and Burke would each score to tie the game at four. After Burke hit another basket to put the Wildcats up by two, the Golden Gophers went on a 8-0 run to take a 11-6 lead. Minnesota led throughout the half and went into the lockerroom with a 30-23 lead.

The second half saw both teams struggle from the free throw line. The Golden Gophers were up 43-29 at one point and the two teams went back and forth, with Northwestern coming as close as 57-52, but the Golden Gophers held on down the stretch and defeated the Wildcats, 69-60.

Golden Gophers John-Blair Bickerstaff and Joel Przybilla scored 12 and 11 points, respectively and freshman Kevin Burleson added eight points in the Golden Gopher effort.

The Golden Gophers travel to Champaign, Ill., to take on Illinois on Wednesday, Feb. 2, before returning home to play host to Wisconsin on Saturday, Feb.5 at 7 p.m. at Williams Arena.
