MinAfter too many near misses, Golden Gopher first-year forward Rachael Roth finally netted her first collegiate goal in game-winning fashion as the Minnesota soccer team shut out Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 1-0, on Friday. The Gophers' fourth consecutive shutout victory improved their record to 7-6-0 overall.

Roth tapped in a rebound of a Keely Dinse shot at the 70:11 mark to capture the victory. Alison Rackley was credited with the second assist. Roth had fired shots in 11 of 12 matches this season before finally hitting the back of the net.

Minnesota built a commanding 15-4 advantage in shots in the second half to keep the pressure on the Panther defense. Laurie Seidl fired two bullets that hit the crossbar in the match's last ten minutes. The Gopher finished with a 22-9 advantage in shots. Wisconsin-Milwaukee (7-6-1) was unable to capitalize on a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Julie Eibensteiner needed five saves to collect the shutout victory. She has 5.5 shutouts in net this season.

The fourth consecutive shutout ties the Minnesota record, equaling the streak first set in 1993.

A crowd of 1,016 attended the match, upping the Gophers' single-season average attendance to a school-record 907 fans per match. The previous record was an average of 904 in 1999.

The Gophers return to Big Ten action on Sunday when they travel to Michigan State. Minnesota will play its final five regular-season matches on the road.
