award Sophomore kicker Dan Nystrom was awarded Co-Special Teams Player of the Week honors by the Big Ten Conference for his efforts against Ohio State on Saturday. Nystrom extended his consecutive field goals made mark to 10 against the then fifth-ranked Buckeyes, as he connected on all three attempts. Nystrom cleared the bar from 23, 32 and 42 yards, and added two extra points to lead the Golden Gophers to a 29-17 victory. It was the third week in a row that the sophomore specialist led his team in scoring.
Nystrom's streak is currently the second longest streak in school history. The longest is 14, set by Nystrom himself from 10/9/99-9/2/00. He also moved himself into ninth place on the school's all-time overall scoring list with 160 career points. Nystrom has played just one and a half seasons, thus far, and he is only 108 points out of Chip Lohmiller's school best 268. Nystrom has drilled 32 field goals in his short career, 15 of them have come this season. The most field goals made by a Golden Gopher in a season is 18 by Paul Rogind in 1977. Chip Lohmiller holds the school record for most field goals in a career with 57.
