Minnesota scored four goals in a span of 4:07 in the second period to take a 4-2 lead, but could not hold on against North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D. The 7-5 setback was the first for the top-ranked Golden Gophers this season.

The Fighting Sioux came out firing as Bryan and David Lundbohm scored first-period goals within the first six and a half minutes into the game.

Trailing 2-0, Minnesota exploded as Jordan Leopold scored a pair of goals, in addition to scores by Matt Koalska and Jeff Taffe. A beleaguered North Dakota team rallied after a timeout and cut the lead to one with a goal by Wes Dorey at the 6:02 mark. Minnesota thwarted the momentum shift when John Pohl scored off a rebound on the backhand at 14:08.

Entering the final period, Minnesota had past success to rely on as the Golden Gophers were 21-0-2 when leading after two periods under Don Lucia. The mark would not remain unblemished as the Fighting Sioux scored four unanswered goals to rally for a 7-5 victory. North Dakota took the lead for good just 14 seconds into a power-play at the 10:27 mark.

For the game, Jordan Leopold extended his consecutive points streak to 13 games with a pair of goals. Sophomore Jeff Taffe added a goal and two assists. Senior captain Erik Westrum's 14 game consecutive points streak was snapped.

North Dakota's Travis Roche tied a WCHA record with six assists in the game.

The two teams will meet for the rematch on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
