GOLDEN GOPHERS DEFEAT YUGOSLAVIAN SELECTS 91-55

game,The Golden Gopher men's basketball team won their second exhibition game Saturday at Williams Arena. They defeated the Yugoslavian Selects 91-55 infront of 7,215 fans. The Gophers played a clean game, totaling only 13 team fouls and showed promise of a good future for Mimnnesota basketball.
The Gophers started fast and had a 25-3 lead with 11 minutes to go in the first half. They were able to maintain a lead of 20 points or more the entire first half. Freshman Michael Bauer showed Minnesota fans what they had been waiting to see from him for a year, as he tallied 14 points in the first half and was six-for-eight from the field.
The second half was more of the same. The Gophers increased their lead as four other players joined Bauer in double figures. The Gophers also played a very clean second half, only tallying four team fouls.
Minnesota opens its regular season Friday at 7 p.m. against UNC Greensboro at Williams Arena.

The one thorn in the side of the Minnesota defense was the Yugoslavian Select's Andreg Djokic. Djokix was automatic offense for his team. He lit up the Gophers for 20 points, including going six-for-nine from three-point range. Despite having four fouls at the end of the first half, Djokic was able to remain in the game the entire second half.He was the only player to score in double figures for the selects.
Bauer led all scorers with 27 points. He was 11-for-13 from the field, including two-for-three from behinf the three-point arc. He also was three-for-four from the free throw line. Shane Schilling added 18 points, Dusty Rychart had 15, John-Blair Bickerstaff had 14 and Ryan Wildenborg added 10 to round out the Gophers in double figures. Bickerstaff was the high rebounder with eight. He also had six assists.Minnesota opens its regular season Friday at 7 p.m. against UNC Greensboro at Williams Arena.
