BRANAGH, VAN OORT, BERG LEAD #8 MINNESOTA PAST MICHIGAN STATE
11/18/2000 12:00:00 AM | Volleyball
"Michigan State played a great match tonight, but we just wanted to win a little more," said Minnesota head coach Mike Hebert. "Lindsey Berg's effort tonight was one of the best I have ever seen. Her serving and all-around game was the difference in the match."
Berg served six of her seven aces in the final two games. Minnesota was trailing 14-12 in the third game, but fought off three game points to bring Berg to the service line. She served two aces to tie the game 14- 14, forced an errant pass that turned into a Minnesota block, and served a third ace to finish the game, 16-14.
Minnesota also came back in the first game to win 15-13. Michigan State led for the majority of the game, but two VanOort kills gave the Gophers a 13-12 lead. A Michigan State service ace tied the game at 13-13, but a block by Berg and Stephanie Hagen gave Minnesota the lead and a Branagh kill ended the game.
The Gophers will play their final regular season match at the Sports Pavilion by hosting Michigan State at 7:30 p.m.
