MICHIGAN DOWNS GOLDEN GOPHERS 4-1 IN COLLEGE HOCKEY SHOWCASE

Minnesota got on the board first at 3:56 of the first period behind senior Erik Westrum's team-leading tenth goal. Westrum shot from Blackburn's stick side and snuck the puck in between the pipe and the goaltender's pads. Assists on the goal went to junior John Pohl, his ninth of the season, and Jordan Leopold, his team-leading 14th of the year.
But that was all the offense that the Golden Gophers could muster as Michigan tallied four unanswered goals. The Wolverines tied it at one at 8:41 of the second period on a power play as Cammalleri notched his seventh goal of the season. Cammalleri came right back with his second of the game at 12:42 of the second period to put Michigan up for good. Andy Hilbert closed out the scoring in the second stanza with a shorthanded goal at 15:12.
Minnesota had a number of scoring chances in the third period, but Blackburn stopped everything that came his way to ensure the Wolverine victory. The Golden Gophers came close to pulling within a goal late in the game when a shot from the point deflected off of the Michigan crossbar.
Minnesota pulled goaltender Adam Hauser at 18:11 for an extra skater, but Hilbert put in an empty net goal at 19:23 to make the score 4-1. With the loss, Hauser moved his record to 9-3-2.
The Golden Gophers (9-3-2, 7-1-2 WCHA) travel to Denver University, December 1-2, to take on the Pioneers in two league games.
