MINNESOTA WRESTLERS PUMMEL NORTHERN IOWA 36-3 IN HOME OPENER

The meet opened at 184 pounds with fourth-ranked Damion Hahn defeating 18th-ranked Kyle Hansen by an 11-7 decision. Hahn led the entire match to ensure victory. At 197 pounds, No. 8 Owen Elzen downed UNI's Jason Payne with a 6-4 decision.
Minnesota's lone loss on the day came at heavyweight where 13th-ranked Paul Hynek posted a 6-1 decision on Minnesota's Mike Flanagan. The match was tied at one after two periods, but Hynek scored an escape and a takedown to cruise to the win. Leroy Vega won the 125-pound match by forfeit.
At 133 pounds, No. 15 Brett Lawrence dominated Chad Boudreaux, winning by a 22-7 technical fall. Lawrence posted 10 takedowns while allowing Boudreaux points only through escapes. Sixth-ranked Chad Erikson won the 141-pound match over Mark Rial with a 11-7 decision. The match was tied at three after the first period, but Erikson scored an early escape and takedown in the second stanza to lead for the remainder of the match.
At 149 pounds, No. 5 Jared Lawrence posted Minnesota's second technical fall triumph of the meet with a 22-7 win over Keith Weber. The match was terminated at 6:12. Lawrence tallied seven takedowns and two near falls to guarantee victory. Fifth-ranked Luke Becker defeated Tom Koenig with a 22-8 major decision. Becker also scored 10 takedowns on the match.
At 165 pounds, No. 5 Brad Pike won by technical fall over Dayton Ericson with a 23-8 score. The match was called at 4:28. Pike continued the high takedown mark with 10 during the match. Junior John Hardy closed out the dual meet with a 7-5 decision victory over UNI's Ricky Crone.
The Golden Gophers, 2-0 this season, travel to the UNI Open on Dec. 2.
