TANISHA GILBERT SHARES BIG TEN WEEKLY HONOR

freshmanTanisha Gilbert was named the co-Big Ten Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the Big Ten Conference office today. Gilbert, a freshman forward from Brooklyn Park, Minn., shares the award with Penn State guard Lisa Shepherd.

Gilbert led the Golden Gophers to a 3-0 record last week with victories over Virginia Commonwealth, Ohio and St. Louis, improving Minnesota's record to 6-3 on the season. The 5-11 forward averaged 16.0 points per game during the week, including a career-high 20 point-performance versus St. Louis. She shot a blistering 70 percent from the field in the three games, making 19 of 27 field goal attempts. She also averaged 9.3 rebounds per game.

Gilbert also tallied the first points/rebounds double-double of her collegiate career, scoring 17 points and pulling down 11 rebounds against Virginia Commonwealth. She repeated the feat versus St Louis with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Minnesota takes a break from its competition schedule for final exams. The Gophers next game is Dec. 23 at Marist.
