HAMILTON FINALIST FOR SOCRATES AWARD

SocrateGolden Gopher football standout Ben Hamilton is a finalist for yet another national award. The senior center is one of eight finalists for the Socrates Award presented by One-On-One Sports. The Award, in its second year, is presented annually to the college athlete who best exemplifies excellence in athletics, academics and their community.

Hamilton, considered one of the best offensive lineman to don a Minnesota football jersey, was also one of three finalists for the 2000 Lombardi Award which is presented to the nation's most outstanding lineman. He recorded 84 knockdowns this season and was an important factor in the Golden Gophers' running success. For being an integral part in that success, he earned a spot on six different All-America lists, including Football News, Walter Camp, AFCA and Rivals.com. Hamilton and teammate Ron Johnson shared the Bronko Nagurski Award this year, which honors the team's most valuable player. Hamilton was also the recipient of the Butch Nash Award for showing competitiveness on the field and in the classroom.
