WOMEN'S GOLF 11TH AFTER FIRST DAY OF MIDWEST CLASSIC

The Minnesota women's golf team is in 11th place after the first round of play at the Midwest Classic in Dallas, Texas. The defending champion Golden Gophers recorded a 326 on Friday, 20 shots behind leader Texas Christian.

Minnesota junior Katie Bakken was the team's highest finisher on Friday, shooting an eight-over-par 80 to tie for 23rd. Sophomore Megan Stier was one stroke back at 81, with freshman Kirstin Whalen at 82 and sophomore Cindy Cannon at 83. Freshman Karyn Stordahl rounded out Minnesota's finishers with a first-round 85.
