GOPHERS WIN ON KENNEDY GOAL IN FINAL HOME GAME

The Badgers got on the board first when Michelle Sikich scored on the power play at 10:18 of the opening period but Minnesota responded little more than a minute later when Kris Scholz's shot deflected off Wisconsin goalie Jennifer Neary's stick into the net.
Scholz scored a short-handed goal 4:13 into the second period to give Minnesota its first lead but Bridget Buchholz counted 10 minutes later to tie the score once again.
The Gophers took the lead for good when Kennedy, the team's lone senior, took a pass from Sarma Pone and, left alone to the left of the Badger net, fired a shot past Neary on the stick side for the eventual game-winning goal.
Minnesota then put the game away when Ronda Curtin's shot was stopped by Neary but trickled through her legs and into the net.
Neary stopped 27 of 30 shots for Wisconsin while Crystal Nicholas had 19 saves for Minnesota.
The Gophers will open the WCHA-Women's League tournament Thursday when they take on Minnesota State, Mankato at the Bloomington Ice Gardens beginning at 12 noon.
