WISCONSIN EDGES GOLDEN GOPHERS

1Sophomore Joel Przybilla scored 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds and Terrance Simmons added 14 points, but Wisconsin's Roy Boone scored with .8 seconds left on the clock and edged the Golden Gophers, 66-64 Saturday night in Williams Arena.

In the first half, Wisconsin jumped out to an 8-2 lead before Minnesota scored eight unanswered points to take a 9-8 lead. The score would remain close until the Badgers went on a 8-0 run to go up 28-20. But again the Golden Gophers would come back and pull within four points. The two teams would head into the lockerroom with a score of 35-28.

The second half would see Wisconsin jump out to leads as large as 58-45, but the Golden Gophers showed heart down the stretch and scored eight straight points to tie the score at 58-58. The two teams would trade points for the rest of the ballgame until Wisconsin's Roy Boone ended up shooting the final basket with .8 seconds left and Wisconsin would go on to slip past the Golden Gophers, 66-64.

Joel Przybilla led all scorers with 17 points. Terrance Simmons added 14, Mitch Ohnstad came off the bench to score 12 and sophomore Dusty Rychart added 10 points.

Roy Boone and Mark Vershaw scored 16 points a piece to lead the Badgers.

The Golden Gophers play host to No.11 Indiana on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at Williams Arena.
