WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS MICHIGAN, 5-2

oMinnesota won the doubles point and four of six singles matches in defeating Michigan, 5-2, in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Gophers improve to 9-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Big Ten.

Minnesota won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The No. 1 team of senior Nora Sauska and freshman Sandra Olsen defeated Jen Duprez and Brooke Hart, 9-7. The No. 3 team of sophomore Jen Howard and freshman Michaela Havelkova defeated Joanne Musgrove and Alison Sinclair, 8-4.

Olsen led the way in singles as well, coming back to defeat Danielle Lund in three sets, 0-6, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Senior Kim Simonsen won at No. 3, defeating Szandra Fuzesi, 6-4, 7-5. Other singles winners were freshman Amy Thomas at No. 4 and junior Tammy Wang at No. 6.

Minnesota competes at Michigan State on Sunday.
