GOLDEN GOPHER MEN LOSE AT MICHIGAN STATE

MJunior Dusty Rychart scored 10 points and Shane Schilling added nine points, but Michigan State's Mike Chappell scored 18 points as the Spartans routed the Golden Gophers, 79-43, in East Lansing. With the win, No. 6 Michigan State climbed back into a tie for first place in the Big Ten Conference.

Michigan State controlled the game from the jump ball as the Golden Gophers fell into a deep hole and couldn't seem to get out as the Spartans took a 29- point lead into the lockerroom. Michigan State held Minnesota to 22 percent shooting in the first half, while shooting 56 percent themselves. Dusty Rychart and junior Kyle Sanden led the Golden Gophers at halftime with four points each. The Spartan's Morris Peterson and Mateen Cleaves each had 11.

The second half was more of the same as Michigan State's Mike Chappell scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half. Rychart led the Golden Gophers in scoring with 10 points followed by Shane Schilling with nine and freshman Ryan Wildenborg with six. Chappell led the Spartans with 18 points, followed by Morris Peterson with 13 and Mateen Cleaves with 12.

The Golden Gophers will play their last game of the regular season on Saturday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Williams Arena. Minnesota will take part in the Big Ten Tournament which starts on Thursday, March 9.
