NO. 6 OHIO STATE DEFEATS MINNESOTA

MiFreshman Shane Schilling scored a career-high 16 points and three other Golden Gophers scored in double figures, but Ohio State's George Reese and Michael Redd combined to score 42 points as Ohio State defeated the Golden Gophers, 82-72, in the regular-season finale at Williams Arena.

In the first half, the Golden Gophers played right with the Buckeyes and even held a 14-13 advantage early in the game. But Ohio State held Minnesota to 35 percent shooting and broke away to lead the game, 42-31, at the half. Shane Schilling led the Golden Gophers with nine points and Terrance Simmons and Kyle Sanden each had seven to lead Minnesota at halftime. Ohio State's George Reese had 12 points.

In the second half, Ohio State shot a sizzling 57 percent from the field while holding the Golden Gophers to 42 percent, although the Golden Gophers had a 39-30 rebounding edge. At one point, Minnesota pulled within five before George Reese and Michael Redd took charge and led the Buckeyes to the win.

Shane Schilling led the team with 16 points, followed by Terrance Simmons with 15 and Mitch Ohnstad with 11.

The Golden Gophers will compete in the 2000 Big Ten Tournament, starting on Thursday, March 9.
