ILLINOIS EDGES GOPHER WOMEN'S TENNIS, 4-3

drMinnesota and Illinois split the six singles matches, but Illinois won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and defeat the Golden Gophers, 4-3, Sunday in Champaign, Ill. Minnesota drops to 14-5 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten.

Senior Kim Simonsen won her ninth straight singles match, defeating Brooke Ferney at No. 3, 6-4, 6-0. Freshman Sandra Olsen won at No. 1 singles, defeating Eldina Fazlic in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Nora Sauska defeated Simone Kung at the No. 2 singles position, 7-4, 6-4.

At No. 2 doubles, Simonsen and junior Tammy Wang defeated Kung and Michelle Webb for Minnesota's only doubles win.

Wang's streak of 13 consecutive singles wins came to an end as she fell to Natalia Manasova at the No. 5 singles position, 7-5, 6-4.
