AUniversity of Minnesota women's hockey coach Laura Halldorson announced that Bethany Petersen of Bloomington Jefferson has signed a national letter of intent and will join the Gophers this fall.

A three-time all-state selection, Petersen led the Jaguars to the state tournament in each of her three seasons. She also has international playing experience, having played for both the USA National Junior Team and the USA Women's Select Team last year.

"We're excited to add a player of Bethany's caliber to the program," Halldorson said. "We consider her to be one of the top recruits in the country. She's an aggressive, hard-nosed defenseman with strong offensive and defensive skills, and we expect her to make an impact right away."

Minnesota's recruiting class now includes nine members. Petersen joins fellow blueliners Cecilia Retelle, Melissa Coulombe and Stefanie Snow, forwards La Toya Clarke, Jerilyn Glenn, Kelsey Bills and Tracy Palinsky, and goalie Stephanie Johnson.
