GOLDEN GOPHERS FINISH 19TH IN FINAL SEARS DIRECTORS' CUP STANDINGS

The all-sports award, presented by Sears and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), honors Division I schools with points based on their finish in NCAA championships.
Minnesota earned Sears Cups points in baseball, men's golf and women's and men's tennis during the spring season.
The previous best finish for the Gophers was 14th which occurred in the final 1993-94 standings. The Gophers achieved their highest ranking ever in the Sears Directors' Cup standings during the 1996-97 sports season when they were in fifth-place after the winter sports standings were tabulated.
The Golden Gophers finished fifth among Big Ten schools in 1999-2000, trailing third-place Michigan, fourth-place Penn State, 14th-place Ohio State and 17th-place Wisconsin. Every Big Ten school finished in the top 50 in the final standings with six of the schools finishing in the top 25.
