The University of Minnesota soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Detroit Mercy on Sunday despite recording a commanding 24-7 advantage in shots. The Golden Gophers' record falls to 2-3-0 on the season.

The Gophers dominated in the first half collecting 15 shots, while holding the Titans to just one shot. Minnesota, however, continued to struggle putting the ball in the net as the first half ended in a scoreless tie.

Junior midfielder Alison Rackley's first goal of the season put the Gophers ahead at the 67:47 mark off an assist by Rachael Roth. The lead was short-lived as Detroit Mercy scored the tying goal off a corner kick opportunity less than a minute later. The Titans scored the game winner at 80:40 when Jenny Fejes blasted home a rebounded shot off Gopher goalkeeper Nicole Chimko. Chimko relieved Gopher starter Julie Eibensteiner for the second half and was credited with the loss in net.

Minnesota senior forward Laurie Seidl was required to sit out the match after receiving a red card in the Gophers' loss to Montana on Friday. It was the first match Seidl has missed in her Gopher career.

The Gophers open their Big Ten Conference schedule next Friday (Sept. 15) when they host Iowa.
