GOPHER WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM HEADS TO UNLV

Minnesota travels to Las Vegas for the UNLV Invitational, Friday-Sunday. The Golden Gophers will compete against athletes from UNLV, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Last year at the UNLV Invitational, Tammy Wang (Grand Island, Neb./Grand Island) won the Flight 2 singles title, while Amy Thomas (Orchard Park, N.Y./ Orchard Park) won in Flight 3. In addition, former Gophers Nora Sauska and Kim Simonsen teamed to win the Flight 1 doubles title.
Last Action: Watts Second In "D" Singles at William & Mary Invitational
Newcomer Brandi Watts (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) placed second in Flight D Singles at the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., Sept. 17. Watts won three of her four singles matches, including a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Ruta Veitas of Boston College.
Sophomore Michaela Havelkova (Liberec, Czech Republic/Gymnazium F.X. Saldy) reached the consolation final in Flight B singles. She fell in the final, 7-5, 6-0, to Kate Pinchbeck of North Carolina.
