The Fighting Sioux got on the board first as Tim Skarperud scored off of a Jason Noterman pass at 12:31 of the first period. The UND goal was the lone scoring of the opening stanza.
Minnesota responded in a big way, tallying five unanswered lamp-lighters in the second and third periods. Freshman Troy Riddle tied the game at one with his unassisted breakaway goal at 1:49 of the second period, notching his tenth goal of the season. Sophomore Jeff Taffe then scored the eventual gamewinner at 17:36 on an assist from freshman Paul Martin.
Freshman Grant Potulny closed out the scoring in the second period with his lamp-lighter at 18:43 on perfect assists from John Pohl and Dylan Mills on the power play.
Junior defenseman Jordan Leopold made the score 4-1 at 9:23 of the third, scoring with a backhander to the top shelf on assists from Aaron Miskovich and Nick Anthony. Then, with UND pulling goaltender Karl Goehring to give the Fighting Sioux a six-on-four power play, Miskovich scored a shorthanded empty-net goal at 13:24 of the third period. With the goal, Miskovich tied Paul Broten's school record for career shorthanded goals at 10.
Golden Gopher goaltender Adam Hauser stopped 19 of 20 shots to get the win on the night, pushing his overall record to 15-6-2. Minnesota next faces archrival Wisconsin Friday & Saturday, Jan. 19-20, in Madison, Wis., in another crucial WCHA series.
