SCHMITT WINS TWICE IN GOPHERS TRACK OPENER

shotAubrey Schmitt won a pair of events as Minnesota opened its track and field season by hosting the Northwest Open.
Schmitt, a four-time Big Ten shot put champion, won the event with a throw of 51 feet, 11 3/4 inches. She also won the weight throw with a toss of 59-11 3/4.
Beth Howard was second to Schmitt in both events. Also claiming second-place finishes were Shannaine Osbourne in the 60-meter dash, Jessica Shuster in the 600-meter run and Monica Stears in the pole vault.
