WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM TO HOST RICHMOND

Minnesota will open its spring season with a single match on Friday. The Golden Gophers take on Richmond in the Minnesota Court Classic beginning at 7 p.m. at the Northwest Athletic Club at 98th Street in Bloomington.
About The Golden Gophers
Minnesota returns five letterwinners from last year's team that finished 18-7 overall and placed second in the Big Ten. The Golden Gophers have qualified for the NCAA Tournament four of the last five seasons. Minnesota will have to overcome the loss of two seniors to graduation: Nora Sauska, the school-record holder for career singles wins; and Kim Simonsen, the team's MVP a year ago.

Richmond lost three seniors to graduation and has five sophomores and three newcomers on its roster. The Spiders finished the 2000 campaign with an 11-10 overall record and last competed in the NCAA Tournament in 1998.
