oBehind the strong goaltending of Adam Hauser and a potent power-play, the University of Minnesota men's hockey team defeated host Alaska Anchorage 3-1 on Friday night. The two teams will meet tomorrow at 10:00 p.m.

Despite dominating the first period, the Seawolves took an early lead when Jesse Unkelbay's centering pass deflected off Golden Gopher Matt DeMarchi's leg and past Hauser.

Unfazed, the Golden Gophers responded just over two minutes later. Seawolf Matt Shasby was cited for his second hooking penalty of the period and the Golden Gophers capitalized. Crashing the net in front of goaltender Chris King, junior John Pohl slapped the puck past him. Erik Westrum and Grant Potulny assisted on the goal.

Tied at one entering the second, Pohl struck again on an identical play. With the Seawolves one man short, the junior collected his second goal of the game in a crowd in front of King. The second period though was Hauser's time to shine. He stopped all 13 shots he faced and stopped a pair of Anchorage breakaways.

Minnesota picked up an insurance goal in the third period. Grant Potulny tipped in Dylan Mills' shot from the point. Pohl picked up an assist for his third point of the night.

The Golden Gophers capitalized on three of their five power-play opportunities and held Alaska Anchorage scoreless on six power-play attempts.

Hauser stopped 26-of-27 shots he faced as Minnesota won its fourth straight game. With the win, the Golden Gophers, along with Colorado College and St. Cloud State, moved past Denver and into second place in the WCHA.
