SCHEDULE SET FOR "GOPHER MADNESS AT MIDNIGHT"

The University of Minnesota Men's Athletics Department has announced the schedule for "Gopher Madness at Midnight" on Friday, Oct. 12. It will be Gopher fans first chance to watch the 2001-02 edition of Golden Gopher Basketball. Head Coach Dan Monson welcomes back seven letterwinners, including three starters and a top 10 ranked recruiting class to Gold Country.

The event will start at 9:30 p.m. with a concert featuring three local bands - Malo, LA and Voicemale. The Golden Gophers will be available for photos and autographs between 10:30 and 11 p.m. A celebrity shootout will start at 11 p.m., followed by the official naming of the student section for 2001-02 and a chance for a lucky fan to win a 2001 Dodge Ram Truck.

At midnight, the team will take the floor to spotlight introductions emceed by ESPN basketball analyst Bill Raftery. A scrimmage and slam dunk contest will follow. Admission is free.

9:30 - 10:30 p.m. Music performance from artists off the Unsigned Twin Cities CD featuring - Malo, LA and Voicemale. 10:30 - 11:00 p.m. Autograph session with the Golden Gophers. Verizon wireless contest for fans. 11:00 - 11:30 p.m. Celebrity Shootout Featuring WCCO's Don Shelby, KFAN's P.A. & Dubay, KMOJ's Q-Bear, R.L. from NEXT, former Gopher J.B. Bickerstaff and Minnesota Viking Tyrone Carter. 11:30 - 12:00 a.m. Dodge Shootout Contest to win a 2001 Ram Truck. Naming of Student Section from fan vote. 12:00 - 12:30 a.m. Team introductions. Scrimmage and slam dunk contest emceed by ESPN basketball analyst Bill Raftery.
