goaltenThe top-ranked University of Minnesota men's hockey team dropped Minnesota-Duluth 5-1 tonight in front of 9,899 fans at Mariucci Arena as 10 different Golden Gophers tallied a point, including goaltender Adam Hauser.

Grant Potulny started the scoring for Minnesota 43 seconds into the game on the power play, deflecting a Jeff Taffe shot from the point past Bulldog goaltender Adam Coole via the five-hole. Jordan Leopold earned the second assist, moving him into sixth place on the all-time school list for points by a defenseman with 113.

Freshman Barry Tallackson made the score 2-0 at 16:48 of the opening period, knocking in a Matt DeMarchi shot that rang off the pipe past a sprawling Coole. John Pohl got the second assist, extending his consecutive points streak to 12 games, dating back to last season. The Golden Gophers outshot the Bulldogs 11-5 in the period.

The Bulldogs got on the board at 3:45 of the second period to cut the score to 2-1 on Brett Hammond's breakaway goal that beat Hauser five-hole.

Gold Country responded in impressive fashion, scoring two shorthanded goals 10 seconds apart. Nick Angell got his first lamplighter of the year on a slapshot from the point at 10:05. Troy Riddle grabbed the single assist. Nick Anthony then quickly made the score 4-1 at 10:15 when his slapshot from the left circle beat Coole glove side. Minnesota again outshot UMD 11-5 in the period.

The Golden Gophers lone goal by Pohl in the third closed out the scoring at 5-1. Pohl caught a pass from Hauser on the side boards, streaked in the zone and beat the new UMD goaltender Rob Anderson with a blistering slapshot from the left circle. It was Pohl's ninth goal of the season. Hauser picked up the assist, his second of the season and career.

For the game, Hauser stopped 39-of-40 shots to push his record 5-0-1 on the year. With DeMarchi's assist in the first period, every player on the active Minnesota roster (except freshmen goalies Travis Weber and Justin Johnson) has now registered at least one point on the season.

The Golden Gophers meet again Saturday night at 8:05 p.m. to finish the two-game WCHA series.
