GOLDEN GOPHERS DOMINATE UNC-ASHEVILLE

For the second consecutive game, Michael Bauer led Minnesota in scoring, pacing five Golden Gophers in double figures. The sophomore forward pumped in a game-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
The Golden Gophers held a double-figure lead through out the second half, but exploded with 7:34 remaining, scoring 16 of the next 18 points to build their lead to 30 with 3:32 remaining. Minnesota head coach Dan Monson substituted freely late in the game and the Gophers coasted to the 27-point victory.
Freshman Rick Rickert pumped in 15 points, while Jerry Holman added 14. Both Maurice Hargrow and Travarus Bennett scored 11, while Dusty Rychart had a game-high seven rebounds to go along with his nine points.
Despite going 0-for-3 and failing to score, Kevin Burleson dished out a career-high 11 assists. The 11 assists were the most since Arriel McDonald handed out 13 assists against Iowa on March 5, 1994. The Golden Gophers had a whopping 26 assists as a team.
UNC-Asheville was led by forward Colin Shaw and guard Brandon Carter with 12 points apiece. Brian McCullough added 11 points. The Bulldogs shot 50 percent for the game including 7-of-15 from three-point range.
Minnesota will return to action Saturday night when they host Eastern Washington at 7 p.m. at Williams Arena.
