After a scoreless first period, four goals were scored in the second. Steph Jones scored at 3:31, while Annie Fahlenbock added another goal at 5:25 to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. However, Minnesota would fight back and score two goals as the Gophers tied the game by the end of the period. Kristy Oonincx scored a power-play goal at 15:48, while La Toya Clarke chipped in a goal off of a rebound from Oonincx at 19:00 tying the game at 2-2. At 7:51 of the third, Noelle Sutton added her second goal of the year, putting the puck past UNH goalie Jen Huggon. The Wildcats pulled Huggon to put an extra skater on the ice. With six skaters, UNH tied the game, 3-3 at 19:24, which turned out to be the final mark. It was the second game in a row that a Gopher opponent has scored by pulling its goalie.
"I'm happy with the three points we gained against two of the top teams in the country," head coach Laura Halldorson said. "It was especially encouraging to see the contribution from our freshman class this weekend."
On the weekend, three rookies tallied a goal for the Gophers. Kelly Stephens had a short-handed goal against Dartmouth, while Oonincx and Sutton scored in the New Hampshire game. In the two games, Oonincx led the rookie class with three points, and Stephens and Sutton each had a goal and an assist. Jody Horak started in goal both games for the Gophers and had 74 saves.
Minnesota returns to Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women's League action against Wisconsin Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Both games are slated for a 7:05 p.m. start at the Capitol Ice Arena.
